Matthew Hudson Kime 1978 - 2010

Easter weekend was hard for us this year. Chris's best friend Matt Kime passed away on Easter Sunday. He had been admitted to ICU the previous Thursday from some complications arising from a strep infection. Chris met Matt in Ireland as they served together on their mission. They became best friends quickly and I always told them that they were like twins to me. They acted the same and seemed to have so much in common. Matt was Chris's best man in our wedding and he got a chance to see what Arizona was like, since he had lived most of his life in Utah. Soon Matt had moved into our condo in Arizona with us for the Summer. After staying with us a few months he decided to head back up to Utah to finish his schooling. We continued to keep in touch, and we would make the 12 hour drive over a weekend just to visit him in Salt Lake. Once Chris and I decided to move to Utah, Matt again moved into our basement. We have a full apartment in our basement and it worked perfect for Matt while he finished his schooling.

I have so many fun memories with Matt over the ten years I've known him. Chris has many, many more. So many things remind us of him. When something does remind us of him, we love to talk about it and laugh because Matt always was fun and entertaining.

Matt will truly be missed. We love you Matt.

Matthew Hudson Kime 1978 ~ 2010 Matthew Hudson Kime was born on December 19, 1978, in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, to Robert and Barbara Kime, the fifth of 11 children. He died unexpectedly on Easter Sunday, April 4, 2010, of complications arising from a strep infection. Matthew was a happy, intelligent, gifted child, and grew up to love rock climbing and snow-boarding. He graduated from Woods Cross High School, and from Southern Utah University with a degree in Chemistry, and from the University of Utah Medical School. He was completing his residency in Internal Medicine at the University Medical Center. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served an honorable mission to the Ireland, Dublin Mission. He was an outstanding pianist with a special love for Chopin, and also played the banjo and guitar. He married his friend who became his true love, Amie Cline, on August 24, 2007. Soon afterward he adopted her three wonderful children, Shayla, Jacob, and Dylan. Matthew was respected by his associates as a physician with great promise. He was especially empathetic and compassionate toward his patients. He was a loving husband, father, son, and brother, who was in turn dearly loved. He will be sorely missed by his heartbroken family, friends, and colleagues, who will cherish remembering that he was brilliant and determined and that he loved to laugh. He is survived by his wife, Amie, his daughter, Shayla (14), his sons, Jacob (12) and Dylan (10), his parents, and his siblings: Robert and (wife) Sharon, Michael, Stephen, Richard, Mary, Sarah, Benjamin, Bradley, Rachel and Emily. He also has 10 nieces and nephews. The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to the excellent critical care staff at St. Marks Hospital; to friends who gave the kindest loving support through his hospitalization; and to the fabulous staff at the University Medical Center Neurological Critical Care Unit for their heroic efforts and reverent care. Each one who attended him is profoundly and deeply appreciated. There will be a private memorial, for invited guests only, on Friday. Funeral services open to all will be on Saturday, April 10, at 1 p.m. at the Val Verda 2nd and 9th Ward Building, 3317 South 800 West, in Bountiful. There will be no viewing, but family will receive visitors from 11:30 a.m. to 12:40 p.m.

Our wedding party.

Matt was an amazing pianist. Chris's parents used to make him play the piano for them before they would feed him dinner!

Another one of Matt's talents was snowboarding.

Chris and Matt with their Mission President, President Crowther and his wife as well as Elder L. Tom Perry and his wife.

The missionaries were allowed to celebrate St. Patrick's Day in Ireland. A few of the missionaries painted their faces. Of course Chris and Matt participated in the fun.

Dan Hallock, who was in our wedding picture above drove 17 hours from Oregon to be at Matt's funeral. It was really good to see him and his family, but we wish it was under better circumstances. It was nice to spend some time with them.
