I need to begin this post by saying I love my kids. They are my world and I don't know what I would do without them. I love being a mother and I am so glad I was trusted to raise the three most beautiful girls anyone could ask for......but.........I NEEDED A BREAK!!!!!!!!!!
And I got one!
My in-laws took my kids for five days. FIVE GLORIOUS DAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!
And they were two states away...yes twelve hours to be exact so it was truly a break!
On Saturday we got back from St. George and walked into an empty house. Chris has experienced this before since I take the kids out of town a few times a year while he stays home to work. I didn't know what to do with myself. I didn't have to put kids to bed. I didn't have to break up fights. I could just sit on the couch if I wanted to. Or take a nap. Or NOT clean up toys. Oh the things I could do!!!
Sunday morning I slept in since Chris had meetings and I had no girls to get ready. I got out of bed, got myself ready, and headed off to church. I sat on our normal bench all by myself until a friend of mine thought I looked lonely and joined me. I didn't have to haul toys, or sippy cups, etc. It felt really weird.
After church I headed home and didn't feel like I needed a nap since I actually slept through the night for the first time in years. So I baked cookies and headed back to the church to share them hot out of the oven with Chris and the Bishopric. I walked home with Chris after he finished meeting with people and then we napped.
Later that evening we Skyped with the girls. I thought it might be a bad idea because they would start to cry, or miss us more. Boy was I wrong. They all said hello and were happy to see us for a whopping two or three minutes, and then they were off playing again and having a wonderful time. I was so glad! I'm glad they didn't want to talk to us, because that meant they were having too much fun at Grandma's.
Monday was the Memorial holiday. I spent the morning shopping for material with my friend Mariana and then the afternoon at her house sewing (I am redoing Ashley's room.....will post soon). Chris spent the day working on his motorcycle getting it ready for the motorcycle trip to California. That evening we headed to the movies with our friends Mariana and Brian to see Thor.
Tuesday Chris and I spent the entire day together. It felt like we were young again. It was strange that we could pull up to our errand and BOTH of us could get out of the car instead of one person waiting in the car with the kids while the other went inside. It's the small things!!
By now I was beginning to miss my kids. I was still having a great time with my hubby, but every time I thought about my kids I would smile and was looking forward to seeing them.
Wednesday morning we headed to Vegas. Chris had surprised me the night we got back from St. George. He told me he had already booked a night at the Hard Rock Hotel and tickets to see Phantom of the Opera. I have been dying to see Phantom since I was 12 or 13 years old.
We spent Wednesday afternoon by the Hard Rock pool. If you have never been there, you are missing out. It was amazing. I didn't bring my camera to take pictures, but wish I had.
After the pool, we got ready to head out to Phantom at the Venetian.

I was starving and knew we wouldn't be eating until late that evening, so we made a quick stop by Cane's. A must for us every time we are in Vegas.

We had some time to burn before the show started so we ventured around the shops at the Venetian.
The Gondola ride was fun to see.
And they had some really great shops for us to browse through.
Then we were off to the show.
It was amazing. They wouldn't allow us to take pictures inside the theater so here we are after the show.

The movie theater to see Pirates 4 was our next stop and then back to the hotel since we had a six hour drive the next day.
We checked out of the Hard Rock the next morning and made the drive to Huntington Beach to see the girls. By day five I was really excited to see them. I missed them so much.
I can't thank my mother-in-law and father-in-law enough for the break they gave us. It was much needed and so much fun.
